The first of two regional golf tournaments took place this past weekend at Redtail Landing Golf Course hosted by MacEwan University. Our women's golf team came into this season as the reigning ACAC Champions and were looking to get off on the right foot to start the year. After Day 1 our women sat in 3rd place overall with a score of +14 and still in the hunt for top spot overall. Fourth year student-athlete Nicole Shultz was our top female at +11 tied for 2nd place overall. Local products Sierra Zukowski & Ciara Bonogofski sit at +19 (8th place overall) and +37 (14th place overall). Day 2 yielded similar results for the team. Nicole Shulltz was once again our top female with a score of +16, +27 overall, finishing in 4th place followed by Sierra Zukowski who shot a second round 85 finishing in 5th place. Ciara Bonogofski finished at +76 and in 15th place. With these scores our women's team tied for 2nd place with SAIT and received a silver medal.
As for the men, Day 1 finished with them in 4th place with an overall score of +14 just 8 shots off the lead in a ver close race for the top 4 positions. The team was led by Chase Broderson at +1 in 6th place overall and local products Mathieu Chapdelaine sitting at +3, tied for 10th, and Caleb Kinch at +4, sitting in a tie for 12th. Kent Lesko & Logan Crawford rounded out the team portion with scores of 82 and 90 respectively. individual players Derek Whitson and Brady Resch also took place in the event with each of them shooting respectable 78 and 79 shot rounds. Day 2 was another solid day as results were better as a whole. The team was lead by rookie Matthieu Chapdelaine at +2 in a tie for 5th shooting a final round 71, followed by Chase Broderson who finished alone in 9th place at +4 with a final round of 75. Our other rookie Caleb Kinch finished in a tie for 10th at +5 with a final round 73. The team was rounded out by Kent Lesko at +18, and Logan Crawford at +24 who finished in a tie for 22nd and 33rd respectively. Back on the individual side Brady Resch topped his first round score by one stroke finishing with a final round 78 and final score of +13. Derek Whitson finished the tournament with a final round 83 at +17 for the tournament. With these scores our me's team finished with a 3rd place finish. Congratulations on a solid start to the season.
The team gets little rest as they are back on the road next week in the south regional hosted by SAIT at Valley Ridge Golf Course.
