The men's & women's soccer teams were back in action over the weekend as the took on the Ambrose University Lions in a rare Friday night match in Calgary. Due to issues regarding the soccer nets at Ambrose the game was played at SAIT Cohos Commons Field. First year International Student Maisa Rebello would get the first goal of the game just before the half hour mark and the Rattlers would hold onto that lead going into the halftime break. As the second half began that is when dual sport athlete Grace Porter took over as she scored three goals in the second half with the first two coming in the 60th minute and again in the 72 minute. Kaylei Hole scored her first of the year off a cross in the 84th minute and Grace Porter would finish her hat trick in the final minute to seal a 5-0 win for the visitors. Dakota Adby made three saves to get her 2nd clean sheet of the season. Grace Porter was named the Player of the Game as a result of her hat trick.
The men's game was a physical affair with 10 fouls being called in the first half which resulted in two yellow cards and the dismissal of Ambrose Lion Amiel Cabayeo. Even with the man advantage the men's team could not find a breakthrough and the first half finished tied 0-0. The second half was a little less physical as both teams took note in the first half and tried to play much more of a possession game. The breakthrough finally came for the Rattlers as in the 70th minute International Student Abdou Raouf Mohamed scored his league leading 6th goal of the season. Down a man, Ambrose had to push to try and tie the game but in 90th minute Colton Pacheco scored to seal the win for the Rattlers. Joao Vitor Duz Batista secured a two save shutout for his third in a row. Player of the Game was earned by Bismarck Gonzalez.
The Rattlers return to the pitch this upcoming weekend to battle the SAIT Trojans and Olds Broncos both away from home.
