Volleyball Schedule Released

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference ACAC has released its 2019 volleyball schedule and it is bound to be more competitive this year than ever.

For the men they are looking for a bounce back season after missing out on the playoffs due to a tie breaker with Briecrest for the last spot. A large portion of the team returns to hopefully bring the team back to the playoffs after a one year hiatus. The men will have their home opener on October 18th against Ambrose University and will travel to Calgary to finish the home-and-home series with the Lions on the Saturday. The Fall Semester features 12 games, 5 at home, with key matchups against Briercrest away and home-and-home series with SAIT and Red Deer in November. The squad returns to action in Winter Semester at home against Olds College on January 10th and 11th. The second half sees another home-and-home series against SAIT, hosts to two matches at home against Briercrest and a pivotal away weekend at Red Deer to finish the semester and regular season. Conference Championships for the men are February 27-29 hosted by Lethbridge College with Nationals being held March 11-14 at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

As for the women, they are ending a playoff drought that dates back to the 2012/13 as they have been awarded the host of the 2020 ACAC Women's Volleyball Conference Championships and automatically qualify. Head Coach Kim Stonehouse returns a large portion of her team from last year and is eager to show they deserve to be in the playoffs. The schedule for the men and the women are identical with the schedule. The home opener for the women is October 18th versus the Ambrose Lions. The women finish the month of October against perennial favorites and national title contenders Briercrest in back to back away games and then play SAIT in a home-and home to open November. In the Winter Semester like the men they open with two games at home against Olds before another home-and-home with SAIT and then hosting Briercrest before having 6 matches, 2 home and 4 away, in February to finish off the regular season. Conference Championships will be held Feb 27-29 with nationals for the women happening in Garneau, Quebec March 11-14.
