Women's Golf Takes Gold; Men finish 4th

At the South Regional Golf Championships our Women's Golf Team captured the Gold Medal! This is the first gold medal of the season and sets them up well going into this upcoming weekends Conference Championships. The men were not as fortunate as they finished in 4th place overall.

Below is a recap of the two days events.

Day 1

Day 1 of the South Golf Regional tournament is in the books and both teams are once again in position to medal.

The women's team currently sits in second place at +23 just two shots of the lead held by Concordia out of Edmonton. The team is lead by Nicole Schultz at +10 in 3rd place, 3 shots back of the lead. She is followed by Sierra Zukowski who is at +13 in 4th place, 6 shots back. Ciara Bonogofski currently sits in 11th place at +34.

As for the men they sit in third place overall behind SAIT and Augustana. Chase Broderson leads is the top Rattler at +3 in a tie for 5th, 3 shots back. Rookie Caleb Kinch is next at +4 tied for 8th and other rookie Mathieu Chapdelaine is in a tie for 15th at +6. Kent Lesko also sits tied with Mathieu. Captain Derek Whitson currently sits at +9 in a tie for 21st, Brady Resch finished the first round at +18 in a tie for 31st and Logan Crawford rounds out the team at +22 in 33rd place.

Day 2

At the South Regional Golf Championship our Women's Golf team has struck gold! Lead by Nicole Schultz who finished 2nd overall at +23 and Sierra Zukowski who finished third at +24, our women's team has come away with the team gold medal with an overall score of +47! The women topped Concordia by two strokes to claim the title. Third team member Ciara Bonogofski finished at +78 and in 15th place. This is the first gold medal for the women this season and sets the team up well for Conference Championships. Congratulations on great weekend.


As for the men, they finished with an overall score of +57 placing them just outside the medals in 4th place. The team was lead by Chase Broderson who finished in 8th place at +10 followed by Caleb Kinch who placed in a tie for 12th at +15. Team captain Derek Whitson was next best at +18, good enough for a tie for 16th. Rookie Mathieu Chapdelaine finished alone in 20th at +19 followed by Kent Lesko at +22 in 20th place. Brady Resch finished in 26th place at +26 and Logan Crawford rounded out the team at +32 in a tie for 30th.

 

Next up is the ACAC Golf Championships at Coal Creek Golf Club hosted by the University of Alberta- Augustana Vikings this upcoming weekend.
