In women's action:
The Red Deer Queens Headed south to the Snake Pit to take on the Injured Medicine Hat College Rattlers. The Home side had only 8 players available in this game and looked to rely on their smaller players to carry the load. The Game was very even through the first part of the game with both teams able to score. Neither team had any "Big's" and the game was mostly outside shooting and fast breaks. Neither team was able to convert with great efficiency leading to a lower scoring half. By the end of the half the teams had put up 35 and 32 points with the Home Rattlers holding a small lead. Both teams looked to the half for a break and a chance to regroup and come back with a better second half.
The Third quarter saw the Red Deer queens start to heat up from beyond the arc. Able to battle back and eventually take the lead, they played from the lead for most of the quarter. The Rattlers did not roll over however continuing to battle and keep the game very close. At the end of the third the queens held a slim 52-51 lead. the fourth quarter was fast and furious with end to end action. The final 2 minutes of the game provided insane drama. Down 4 the Rattlers hit a 3 followed up with a steal before getting to the line to hit the games final two points. the Home side completed the comeback and took the close match 71-70 in a very close contest.
In Men's action:
The Red Deer College Kings headed into the Snake Pit to take on the struggling Medicine Hat College Rattlers. The Kings were able to open up an early lead with the help of their 3 point shooting. Taking advantage of Rattlers turnovers, the Kings were able to score often. By the end of the first they held a 33-17 lead taking firm control of the game.
With the game firmly in hand, the Kings were content with trading scores early in the second. They were able to keep ahead with the help of outside shooting again. With a tough foul called Kings forward Ramiro Jimenez was issued two technical and ejected from the game. The Rattlers used this as a momentum builder and were able to cut into the lead. the Rattlers went into the half trailing 37-48. But a significant momentum shift had happened going into the half.
The third quarter opened with the Rattlers able to maintain some of their momentum. They brought their aggressive play on offence into the quarter and were able to chip away at the Kings lead. The visitors went ice cold from the outside and were getting the majority of their points from the mid range and in the paint. The Rattlers continued to drive and try and draw contact at the rim. Although they started the comeback, they remained behind 63-57 at the end of the quarter.
The fourth quarter started with a high intensity from the Rattlers. They were continuing to chip away at the Kings lead and getting stops on the defensive end. They tied the game 67-67 before taking the lead away. The Gym gained some energy as the Home side took the first lead of the night. The Kings did not roll over after relinquishing the lead. Red Deer stayed right with the Rattlers and the game was tied at 81 with 28 seconds on the clock. the Rattlers scored with 16 second left and left the Kings to try and score to tie the match. The Rattlers held on in the last seconds to take an 84-82 victory for their second win of the season.
