Saturday brought the final day of competition to Medicine Hat in the ACAC Men's Volleyball Conference Championships. In the Consolation Final, The Medicine Hat Rattlers played host to the Concordia Thunder. The Snake Pit was packed for a 3 pm game with Rattler Athletes packing the seats. The first set started with a very traditional volleyball start. The teams traded serves and attacks early with no real advantages gained. The officials made three close calls going in Concordia's favor early keeping it close. With a block form Joao Friere the Rattlers gained a small advantage. This was quickly erased with a kill from Thunder hitter Keenan Forstey. Defence started to become more crucial as passing and offence was not yet crisp. Vitor Pereria and Alfred Dalevik of Medicine Hat moved in rotation to serve and started to shift the momentum of the game back in favor of the home side. Up by 3, 19-16, the Rattlers seemed in control of the first set. Two costly errors late scared the home side as it could have started a comeback from the thunder. Despite these errors the Rattlers exploded again riding a wake of momentum and cruising to a 25-21 set win.
The second set started much like the first with teams trading serves and points early. A Brodie Dolter block, helped the Rattlers open up an early 2 point cushion. Vitor Pereria stepped up to serve, 2 aces and a block later the Rattlers led by 5 up 8-3. Concordia was forced into a timeout in an effort to change the tide. This timeout helped them back into the game as they were no longer hemorrhaging points, rather just hanging on in the set. Medicine Hat however, was not simply content to let the Thunder gain any traction in this set. A huge block from Alfred Dalevik on the Heels of a Zach Frank serving streak, extended their already big lead to 10. The Rattlers did not stop there. Continuing to pull away, taking the second set 25-14.
The third set saw the Rattlers start a few of their bench players on the court. Up 2 sets to none, some of the veteran players were taken out in favor of the rookies. This did not seem to make a difference as the rookies stepped up right away and came up with 3 big points from Brenan Kuffert and Justice Lesuk. The Rattlers continued to roll up 7-3 early in the match, they aimed to keep this lead throughout. The Thunder finally started to work back into the game with the help of some powerful kills. Concordia tied the game at 13 and continued to try to chip away at the Rattler momentum. This did not seem to work for long as the Rattlers again pulled away, leading 18-14 much to the home crowds pleasure. As the points crawled up the board the crowd a buzz went through the gym. At Match Point Brodie Dolter was subbed out to a standing ovation. On the very Next play fan favorite Griffin Moline converted on the Kill winning it for the Hosts 25-20 and 3 sets to 0.
