Chad Watson brings over two decades of coaching experience and a deep connection to the Medicine Hat community. Originally from Montana, Chad moved to Canada to play basketball for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers from 1999 to 2002. During his playing career, he earned First Team All-Conference honors and was named Athlete of the Year in 2001.
Chad’s coaching career began at the University of Lethbridge, working with the Men's Basketball team from 2002 to 2004. He then led the Stirling Lakers from 2004 to 2007, where he captured two 1A zone and provincial championships. In 2007, he took the helm at Medicine Hat High School’s Boys Basketball program, where he coached until 2024, winning two zone championships and a bronze medal at the 4a provincial tournaments.
In addition to his role as a coach, Chad is a full-time employee at Medicine Hat High School, serving as the PE Lead Teacher and the school’s Athletic Director. He is also actively involved in the broader basketball community as the commissioner of boys’ basketball for the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association (ASAA) and as the basketball chair for the Special Olympics Canada Games. Furthermore, Chad co-founded the Badlands Basketball Club, which now has 11 teams, developing young athletes in Medicine Hat.
